The Proof

Improved fitness is not a matter of speculation and hope, it is a demonstrable and provable gain. Players and athletes are monitored throughout their training programmes, and the results analysed methodically and objectively. Adjustments can be made to fine tune the training; functional progression can be measured and adapted to suit the rigours of the specific sport; and new targets and goals can be established - and met !

Case Study: Client C - Strength Flexibility and Remedial Exercise

Client C is a top class professional golfer, and was concerned about a loss of distance in his drives. His coach suggested a structured fitness programme, as Client C's existing 'fitness regime' consisted of jogging and minimal stretching.

In approaching Team Fitness, Client C expressed his concern about 'bulking up' and his assumption that weight training would mean bulging muscles and loss of flexibility.

Upon examination, Team Fitness discovered that there was disproportionate muscle mass on the right side of his upper body. Moreover, whilst his flexibility was good moving through the horizontal plane, there was some limitation in the vertical plane. Client C also described a recurrent, lower back pain problem, assuming this was an occupational hazard.

Team Fitness prescribed a programme of mobility exercises using very light weights, 3 times a week, and daily extensive stretching. We also designed an individual warm-up programme to be carried out before each golf session.

The weight training settled at one session per week, working both upper and lower body at 70% of 1 repetition maximum. A second session of cardio-vascular workout was also instigated. Stretching was maintained as a daily activity.

After 10 weeks, Client C reported a 'more fluid swing,' greater distance in drives and an absence of back pain.
